Mr. Steve
Latta
The first person I
would like to acknowledge as a master in his field is
Steve Latta. Mr. Latta is a furniture making
teacher in the Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology, in
Lancaster, PA. He is a contributing author to Fine Woodworking
Magazine.
The subject of the
main article was building a Federal style card table. The
woodworking techniques used in the article were fairly advanced,
and very well presented, but the work shown in the Master Class is
simply amazing.
He did a follow
up article in the Master Class section of the same issue, (FWW
# 180), on Federal Style, stringing and banding. The patience
involved in this type of work is nothing short of amazing. His
ability to convey and illustrate the techniques, are well received.
This is an area I've often wondered how they accomplished such
delicate work back in the eighteenth century. It is also an area of
woodworking I am interested in pursuing,
Since this period is
of great personal interest to me, I'm always on the lookout for
articles and pictures which will help me understand the behind the
scenes work being done, to achieve the final results. Over all this
is a beautiful project, which was very well executed by Mr Latta.
Bravo
End of this
tribute to my kind of nut, Mr Steve Latta.
